Abstract Text:
The capability of XGC1 has been extended to electromagnetic regime using gyrokinetic ions and fluid electrons. This feature enables a more complete description of the edge physics: micro turbulence together with MHD/fluid type mode activities including ELMs, neoclassical tearing modes, peeling/ballooning modes, and kinetic ballooning modes. Dynamics of the background profile, neoclassical physics, and neutral particles and atomic physics will be naturally simulated together in XGC1. We report the verification of various electromagnetic modes in the limit of small delta-B: shear Alfven waves, ITG/KBM transition, low-n resistive tearing modes, and kink modes. Detailed results of the verification will be presented, together with research plans for immediate future.
