Ion temperature gradient (ITG) mode and trapped electron mode (TEM) are two major drift-wave type instabilities that account for the turbulent transport in tokamaks. We carry out several gyrokinetic simulations using GTC code for the HL-2A tokamak and find non-conventional ballooning structures for toroidal electrostatic drift waves. These non-conventional mode structures are commonly seen in the plasma edge and underlying physics is carefully investigated.
