Abstract Text:
Hysteresis phenomena associated to the heating of magnetic islands with resonant RF waves is found in this paper. A simplified energy deposition model in a symmetrised slab geometry is explored, finding a bifurcation point that leads to a high temperature non-linear solution. The amount by which the wave energy is focused and the accuracy with which it is deposited within the island are important features in reducing the bifurcation threshold to access the high-T solution and increasing the final island temperature as well.
